The City of Soledad has adopted a "no backyard burning" ordinance within the city limits. Backyard Burning is the use of outdoor fire for disposing of natural vegetation. The City of Soledad encourages alternative methods to dispose of natural vegetation, such as composting, chipping, or use of landfills.
Backyard burning is permissible within the boundaries of the Mission Soledad Rural Fire Protection District during the non-fire season from December 1st through April 30th. A burn permit is required. Burn permits can be obtained at the

Permissive Burn Days
Applicants must call 1-800-CAL-BURN to determine if it is a permissive burn day:
- Burning is only allowed from sunrise to 1:00 pm
- Burning is never allowed on windy days
